Mark Batista, co founder of Jacket Required and Number Six London recently opened The Content Store, a nice little store on Lambs Conduit St and home to some fantastic brands such as CP Company, Patagonia, Ten C and Veras…….(well, we had to get a plug in somewhere). Mark, one of the busiest guys in fashion and some say, one of the nicest (okay, we’re after some discount on the TEN C) sits down to answer a few questions.
What did you have for breakfast?
Toasted bagel with avocado and tomato
What’s good about your hometown?
My hometown is London, head office, world capital. So pretty much everything is good about it in my opinion
If you could punch one celebrity in the face with absolutely no repercussions, who would it be?
Can’t think of any celebrities that really bother me but if I could change that to politicians then Tony Blair would be very high on my list.
Provide us with a synopsis for your autobiography in 148 characters and what would you call it?
Born in London, grew up in Luton, worked as a bricklayer, couldn’t get work, moved back to London and worked for Paul Smith, loved it, worked for Paul Smith in New York, had a right laugh, came back to London and helped set up Diesel UK, smashed it, left to work for De-Lux and launched Beastie Boys, Def Jam and Wu Tangs clothing lines in Europe, left De-lux, started Brand Progression, sold to the worlds finest, started TBC in London, took TBC to New York and Tokyo, launched No6, had a marvelous time, launched Jacket Required with Mr Craig Ford, sold it, opened Content Store and in between got married to my amazing wife and had two wonderful children. My autobiography would be called “That’s that”
You’ve got £300 to spend on one new item of menswear, tell us what you’re gonna be buying?
Footwear, always good footwear. The rest of the outfit will revolve around what I wear on my feet.
